In the relentless hum of the global supply chain, where the promise of next-day delivery hinges on an intricate dance of logistics, a quiet revolution has been unfolding.

For ten years, from its genesis in Paris, France, Exotec has been at the forefront of this transformation, celebrating a decade marked by innovation, exponential growth, and the deployment of over 10,000 of its distinctive Skypod robots worldwide.

This isn’t merely a corporate anniversary; it’s a testament to how elegant engineering can redefine the very fabric of modern commerce.

For too long, the intralogistics industry grappled with automation systems that were cumbersome, prohibitively expensive, and notoriously rigid.

These monolithic solutions, once installed, struggled to adapt to the mercurial demands of consumer behaviour and market shifts, leaving businesses either locked into suboptimal processes or facing daunting re-investments.

It was into this chasm of frustration that Romain Moulin and Renaud Heitz, Exotec’s co-founders, launched their vision a decade ago.

Their ambition was simple yet profound: to build a robotics solution that was not only efficient but also inherently flexible, scalable, and user-friendly.

The result was the Skypod system, a modular marvel that has since become synonymous with agile warehouse automation.

Unlike its predecessors, Skypod offers a plug-and-play architecture, allowing businesses to scale their operations incrementally without sacrificing the critical efficiency needed to stay competitive.

This inherent adaptability is a game-changer, enabling companies to respond to peak seasons, unexpected demand surges, or evolving product lines with unprecedented agility.

Exotec didn’t stop at the robots; they built an entire ecosystem, including their Skypath conveyor system and the sophisticated Deepsky warehouse execution system (WES) software suite, ensuring an end-to-end automated solution that tackles complex challenges at scale.

The statistics of Exotec’s journey are not just impressive; they are almost dizzying in their scope.

Over 10,000 Skypod robots have completed more than 938 million cycles, fulfilling billions of customer orders.

Perhaps more compelling, these tireless machines have collectively saved warehouse operators over 90 million kilometres of walking – a distance equivalent to 119 return trips to the moon.

This isn’t just about efficiency; it’s about a profound human impact.

By reducing the physical strain on staff, Exotec’s systems contribute to safer working environments, mitigating the chronic issues of fatigue and injury that have long plagued the sector.

This, in turn, fosters a more engaged and productive workforce, while businesses benefit from industry-leading throughput, enhanced order accuracy, and faster delivery times – all crucial factors in meeting the ever-escalating expectations of today’s consumers.

Exotec’s philosophy has resonated deeply across industries, attracting a roster of global giants including Gap, Uniqlo, and Carrefour.

This widespread adoption underscores the universal need for smarter, more adaptable logistics.

The financial trajectory mirrors this operational success, with Exotec surpassing $1 billion in sales in 2024, a clear indicator of its market dominance and the indispensable value it provides.

With its technology now deployed across more than 200 customer sites worldwide, Exotec has solidified its position as one of the fastest-scaling players in warehouse automation.

Romain Moulin, CEO and co-founder, reflects on this milestone with a vision that extends far beyond the current success.

“Ten years ago, Renaud and I set out to build a robotics solution that solved ongoing warehouse frustrations,” Moulin explains.

“Today’s milestone demonstrates our continued growth and the confidence our customers place in our technology.”

He emphasizes a strategic shift towards integrated solutions, working closely with technology partners like E80 Group to tailor systems for specific industry needs.

“Customers don’t want individual products – they want integrated solutions that connect seamlessly. Our focus is to be a trusted partner to deliver complete automation systems at scale.”

This sentiment is echoed by early adopters like C-Logistics, the logistics subsidiary of France’s leading e-commerce player, Cdiscount.

Antoine Wolff, managing director of C-Logistics, proudly recalls their collaboration with Exotec since 2016, making them the first in the world to install Skypod systems in their historic Cestas warehouse.

“Nearly 10 years later, three major systems now equip our logistics sites in France,” Wolff notes.

“This collaboration has played a key role in transforming our logistics operations, significantly increasing storage capacity and productivity, while reducing the physical strain on our employees.”

Exotec’s journey is more than a business success story; it’s a narrative about foresight, problem-solving, and the profound impact of technology when applied with an understanding of both operational needs and human well-being.

As the demands of e-commerce continue to intensify and supply chains become ever more complex, the ability to adapt, scale, and innovate will remain paramount.

Exotec, with its decade of pioneering work, stands as a beacon for the future of logistics, proving that the most elegant solutions are often the most effective, quietly orchestrating the unseen ballet that keeps our modern world moving.
